Kitchen and family room unite
in this extensive kitchen remodel in Newport Beach, California. A wall was removed between the family room and kitchen to create a convenient great room for the homeowners. With the wall removed and the ceiling raised to nine feet, it allowed an opportunity to update and produce effective task and mood lighting for both rooms. The arched window changed the kitchen interior to a charming ambiance while drawing attention to the magnificent ocean view. An island was fabricated to allow for an eating area, as well as, a place for preparation and serving buffets. Maple wood cabinets stained to a warm pecan finish fashioned an appealing contrast to the distressed black painted island. Not seen in this picture, the kitchen wraps around to accommodate a large refrigerator, pantry and double oven, along with a personal desk area with pigeon holes for the grand kids' forgotten items. Also not shown, a convenient, attractive bar area was designed with an ice maker, wine cooler and lighted glass upper cabinets for the purpose of entertaining family and friends.

A major remodel in this 12 year old Huntington Beach, California home
including the kitchen. The kitchen challenge was to incorporate as many restaurant-type appliances into a relatively small kitchen space. Function, style and traffic flow were very important in this design. An island was created, where there was none previously, as well as updating the lighting to maintain a variety of effective lighting scenarios. The cherry wood cabinets and custom painted backsplash tiles expressed an old world charm blending successfully with the black granite counter tops and contemporary hanging light fixtures to allow for a sophisticated flare. The family room and kitchen nook surround this kitchen to establish a comfortable social and functional area for family and friends.
